In 1987 March was officially named Women's History Month. The month has been set aside to highlight the many contributions of women in society. From practical everyday inventions like the creation of the disposable diaper, first created by Marion Donovan in 1946, (whose design was subsequently perfected by women) to Mary Anderson who’s credited for inventing the first functional windshield wiper in 1903, the contributions of women have been pivotal in shaping our everyday society. Women have blazed the trail of professional pursuits spanning an array of careers including scientists, educators, government leaders, corporate boardrooms, athletes, designers, film directors and performers. Please take a moment to recognize the challenges and accomplishments of women over time. Recognizing Ethics in Insurance
The CPCU Society also recognizes the importance of the Ethics in Insurance by marking March as Ethics Awareness Month. The New Jersey CPCU Society Chapter, supported by the sponsorship of ISO Solutions (a Verisk Analytics business), and Chubb Ltd., hosted a seminar titled “How to Avoid Blind Spots: An Insurance Ethics Workshop” in ISO’s Jersey City office on March 1, 2017. The workshop was facilitated by Karen Glemming, Chubb’s Sr. Learning Specialist. The interactive workshop lasted for three hours and by the end of the course participants were able to identify blinders that limit ethical vision, learned about classic ethical themes and tested their ethical barometer with the application of case studies. This sold out event was designed for agency producers, however each individual was able to identify with the concepts discussed. The workshop was well received by those in attendance. The Chapter sends a special thank you to the organizers and sponsors that helped make the event possible.
St. Peter’s College Career Fair
Hazel Yang-Lee and Matthew Struck of the New Jersey Chapter attended a Career Fair event at St. Peter’s University in Jersey City on March 2nd. The goal of the chapter’s attendance was to meet with current college students and encourage them to look into insurance as a professional path once they graduate. The event was a huge success! Over 25 students, alumni and a number of the faculty stopped by the booth and discussed how their specific skills and education might result in a successful career in insurance. The fair highlighted insuremypath.org (https://www.insuremypath.org/) as a resource. The reception from the attendees was universally positive!
