The New Jersey Chapter is saddened by the loss of Past President, Edward Lifson, CPCU. Ed passed away on May 7, 2013. Ed earned his designation in 1957. He was chapter president in 1963 and served as a director since that time. In 2010, the chapter awarded him the designation, "Of Counsel" for his decades of continuous service. Ed Lifson's obituary.

In the past few years, the chapter has lost two other past presidents - Alan Brown, CPCU, and Mark E. Wickham, CPCU.

Annual Meeting and Recognition Breakfast
On Tuesday, June 5, 2012 the CPCU Society New Jersey Chapter hosted its Annual Meeting and Recognition breakfast at The Newark Club. Past presidents and new designees were honored. The chapter bestowed the employer CPCU Excellence Award on Montclair based, William H. Connolly & Co., LLC. The 2012 - 2013 officers were elected.

NJ CPCU Increases Support to The Community Food Bank of NJ
A $1,500 donation was made at the Past President's Lunch to the Community Food Bank of NJ on behalf of the NJ Chapter of the CPCU. Our retiring President, Nelson Rivera, CPA, CPCU presented the check. We urge everyone to find out more about this organization at http://www.njfoodbank.org/ and encourage all to help further.
On April 6, 2011 insurance industry professionals met at the Hyatt Morristown for lunch and to donate their lightly used suits and/or accessories to Dress for Success of Morris County. Dress for Success' mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help them thrive in work and in life. Guest Speaker, Stephanie Gould Rabin, ACAS, MAAA, discussed the recent release of the RMS cat model and how it will affect our industry. Representatives from ACE, American Standard, Aon, Brown & Brown, Coventry WC Services, Marsh, Rapid Recovery Services, Regent Atlantic Capital, Risks Specialists Co of NY, Toa Re and Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire attended. News in Education -
Two new changes have been announced by the AICPCU:
1. The Program in General Insurance is now a designation: Associate in General Insurance (AINS)
Based on feedback from customers and industry demand, we are very pleased to tell you that—the Program in General Insurance (INS) certificate program will become a designation program effective 7/1/2010.
2. The CPCU program will Include electives
Effective June 28, 2010, the CPCU program will include an elective component as a part of its education requirement. Individuals pursuing the CPCU designation will select one elective course from among ten options in seven functional areas. Courses in the 8-part CPCU designation program now include four foundation courses, one elective course, and three concentration courses (personal or commercial).

CPCU Society New Jersey Chapter placed this page (above) in the the Community Food Bank of New Jersey's 16th annual Blue Jean Ball event program. Over 660 people enjoyed an evening of delicious food, fantastic music and entertainment and participated in a silent auction. See the full program here, which appears on their website as well as their thank you letter and the Blue Jean Ball Recipe Book. What a great way to help the community and spread the word!

Remember how wonderful you felt when you passed your final designation examination? The Scholarship Committee will be meeting shortly and volunteers are needed. Please contact Rita Williams-Bogar if you can spare some time to assist others in achieving their goals.
The two Workshops our Chapter held at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park - The Exposures of E-Business and Emerging Insurance Coverages and Executive Liability - Exposures, Insurance Coverages and Marketing were sold out and well received. Some attendees said:
